Wrapping up a series on embedded reporters, KVAL News takes you into the battlefield in Afghanistan.

As Americans observe Veterans Day, others are honoring those who are still serving. Two embedded journalists working with KVAL News are home in Oregon again after reporting from the front lines in Afghanistan.

Dan Morrison and Cali Bagby embedded with the Marines in Afghanistan as multimedia journalists for KVAL.com. They share their stories Monday in Eugene and Wednesday in Portland.

"Everyone make sure their helmets and seatbelts are on," says Cpt Ryan Bumgardner, 29, of Hood River, Ore., "and the doors are locked.”

The Marines from the 2nd Platoon of the 6th Engineer Support Battalion based out of Springfield, Ore., miss their wives, girlfriends, parents - and Duck and Beaver football games.

Conversations start with phrases like, "if we get blown up" and "if we receive indirect fire." This is life for Oregon Marines in the war zone of Helmand province, Afghanistan.

What do Oregonians in Afghanistan want to say to the folks back home? They miss family, friends - and football.
