Wire thieves pulled more than a mile of copper wire from the lighting system of Eugene's Fern Ridge bicycle and pedestrian paths between Terry Sreet and Roosevelt Boulevard. The City of Eugene estimates the loss at $37,000.

Early this week, thieves broke into a Bonneville Power Administration substation in Eugene, Ore., and stole copper wire.  BPA is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Thieves stole 700 feet of copper wire from lights along the bike path between Marist High School and Valley River Center, doing an estimated $10,000 in damage. Electrical wire, phone lines, car parts -- metal theft is a problem in Eugene.

Rod Blomberg arrived at work Monday morning and found his livelihood torn to pieces. So he found the guys who did it. He hasn't found hope that catching the crooks will bring a halt to his headaches, however.
