The governor's office said former state Sen. Vicki Walker won't serve on the board of parole due to the budget. Walker told KVAL News her husband was recenlty laid off by The Register-Guard. "This is happening to all Oregonians," she said. "I feel their pain."

The Lane County Board of Commissioners appointed Val Hoyle to replace Chris Edwards in the House representing West Eugene, Santa Clara and Junction City. Edwards is now a State Senator, replacing former Senator Vicki Walker who joined the Oregon Board of Parole.

State Rep. Chris Edwards will move to a new chamber in the state capitol.  The Lane County Board of Commissioners appointed him to the state senate seat vacated by Vicki Walker.

Less than a day after the tax measure failed a key vote, Democrats were able to pass a tax increase on many Oregon businesses and upper-income earners.  The plan will raise $733 million in revenue for the state over the next two years.

A stimulus bill passed the Oregon legislature and was signed by the governor, sending $8 million to Lane Community College to fund work on a health center and other deferred maintenance. The University of Oregon will receive $2 million for building projects.
