A couple found the body of a woman at the bottom of a steep hill below a popular Pacific Ocean overlook along Highway 101 on Sunday morning.

I was up at the Umpqua River Lighthouse to see if there was going to be a beautiful sunset...nope! Lots of thunderheads with a little rotating shelf cloud and finally, just a peek of sun and sunrays.

Douglas County will officially be taking over the Umpqua River Lighthouse at Winchester Bay. The lighthouse was set to be shut down by the coast guard, but the county fought to keep it.

The U. S. Coast Guard is releasing a report the Umpqua River in Oregon which states that the Umpqua River Lighthouse is not required for safe navigation.

The fate of the Umpqua River Lighthouse is up in the air as the Coast Guard weighs the decision of whether or not to decommission the landmark light.

The historic Fresnel lens that concentrates the light from the Umpqua River Lighthouse and allows it to be seen 20 miles out to sea could soon be extinguished or replaced by a more modern light that wouldn't be part of the stucco lighthouse.
