Twice a week, someone from Bend's Fields Farm picks up the material and takes it back to the farm where it is composted and turned into a fertilizer, which helps grow the vegetables sold at local farmers markets.
Greta Sangder can't take her daughter Emily to a restaurant without also worrying about taking a trip to the hospital. "When she was about 2 and a half she was given a tiny little bite of peanut butter," Sangder said, "and within about two minutes she got really sick."
Restaurants and retailers face rising rice prices. In some cases, the cost is being passed on to consumers -- if they can find rice to buy at local stores, some of which sold out and expect smaller shipments.

The third rice and bean bowl restaurant opens this week.

What started as a recipe in a Eugene kitchen and grew into a couple of funky local cafes, is about to go nationwide. Cafe Yumm is franchising their popular cafe concept, with a goal of opening 50 restaurants in five years.
